The West is Where it is,
and the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch
is the Best in the West
I have been flying into the NQC Ranch
airstrip since 1967. My first trip was made in a brand
new Commanche 260B that I rented from Louisville Flying Service
while serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky. I will never
forget coming down the Gallatin River at 10,000 ft., topping the ridges and
seeing the ranch sprawling out below along the Taylor Fork.
I circled and made a left downwind to the east as Howard
Kelsey coached me on the intercom. It was an easy landing
up hill to the west and a big thrill to taxi up to the
office/happy hour cabin and receive a warm welcome from
everyone.
I have returned to the ranch many times
through the years, and the thrill of arriving has never
changed. My wife Sue and I like to ride the big Appaloosa
horses up into the surrounding mountains, fly fish in the
rivers and creeks around the ranch, and relax and visit
with the Kelseys and other guests. It’s really special
to be able to land an airplane at the ranch and walk to
your cabin. The airplane is there for early morning touring
or late evening flights around the countryside, but most
days we ride the horses or fish the streams rather than
fly over the countryside and look down on it.
Kim and Kelly along with Konnor, Kameron,
Kyleen, and Martha Kelsey create
a very friendly atmosphere. Having a special place to hold
Happy Hour every evening before dinner, while the youngsters
are having their meal, helps every one to become quickly
acquainted. Activities are well planned and there are plenty
of choices available.
Sue and I are looking forward to another
week at the ranch again this summer. Sue really likes to
ride horses, fly fish, and even square dance on Saturday
night. We hope to see you there in July!
